The outbreak of the COVID-19 has brought the world to a halt. This pandemic has disrupted every major industry on the planet. A worldwide lockdown has been imposed whereas people are being quarantined by the dozen. As the death rate increases, officials are struggling hard to find a cure
Every government has been on the front foot when it comes to basic measures like; face masks, PPE kits, sanitized, etc, and so on. But in the midst of all this, there have been several counterfeit goods being seized every day. Spoof agencies are producing substandard masks to make a good buck. This is the greatest threat faced by humanity in a time of crisis.
U.S Enlists Amazon, 3M, And Pfizer To Interdict Counterfeit Products
The United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has decided to team with e-commerce giant Amazon in the fight against counterfeit COVID-19 products. Along with Amazon, the ICE has also teamed up with Pfizer and 3M to interdict counterfeit products.
In the wake of the chaos, the U.S has been importing a mass quantity of PPE kits, face masks, medical gear, and a lot more medical goods. This is given counterfeit goods and substandard medical accessories a golden opportunity to land on their shores. In order to stop this from happening, the U.S is officially partnering up with:
- N95 Mask Producer 3M and
- Pharma giant Pfizer.
This move comes in a response to millions of faulty PPE kits exported by China to the rest of the world. According to The Wall Street Journal, this will help in interdicting counterfeit products such as PPE kits, substandard masks, and various other pandemic related materials. The U.S currently faces the shortages of PPE kits due to which it has resorted to importing tonnes of cargo on its shores.
The N95 mask is capable of filtering out 95% of particles from the air the wearer is breathing. According to the Wall Street Journal, the alleged N95 masks imported from China filtered out only 35% of the particles. This was found out when the U.S medical council ran tests on the imported N95 masks from China.
To combat this plague, the ICE is working with Amazon, 3M, Pfizer, and many such companies to identify the following:
- Who is selling faulty merchandise?
- Counterfeit Masks
- Substandard PPE Kits
- Poor-quality medical gear required in the fight against the pandemic
