From the first outbreak of Coronavirus, hundreds of vaccines are under production to fight against the pandemic. Here are the top 4 vaccines that can save the world soon. But will it be accessible to all? Is it going to help all the countries?
University Of Oxford Vaccine
One of the vaccines with the most potential against COVID-19 is the ChAdOx1 nCoV-19. The Jenner Institute and Oxford Vaccine Group developed the vaccine at the University Of Oxford. The Serum Institute of India closely working with the University Of Oxford in this project.
The vaccine consists of a weakened version of Chimpanzee’s Adenovirus as a vector. It is infused with the genetic material of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein. The vaccine works on MERS and SARS caused by coronavirus. As Adenovirus causes cold, after vaccination the vaccine protein alerts the immune system of the body to work against COVID-19.
The vaccine is under trials, and everything goes well it will be out in the market by October this year.
Moderna mRNA Vaccine
Moderna is a Massachusetts based biotech company. This company is developing a vaccine on a novel approach by using specially designed m-RNA.
The m-RNA is a genetic material that is the messenger of the genetic codes in a human body. The specially designed messenger RNA in the vaccine produces a viral protein called antigen. The produced antigen helps to awake the immune system and work against Coronavirus.
The vaccine is currently entering into its Phase 2 trials. It is one of the vaccines easy to manufacture but expensive. So, if this vaccine approved, the US govt. will strictly regulate it. As the BARDA of the US-funded it with around $483 million.
Pfizer along with its partner BioNTech (German), working on four different vaccines at the same time with different kinds of mRNA. Each vaccine consists of a different combination of mRNAs to build different target antigens.
The vaccine works as the m-RNA vaccines. Currently, the vaccine is under trial under Germany and all set to send to the US for further trials. Though the vaccine is under control, Pfizer is all set to deliver millions of vaccine doses in 2020. And it also confirms the number will grow to hundreds of millions before 2021.
Sinovac Biotech Vacine
The Chinese Biotech company Sinovac is already ahead in the race of producing the vaccine against COVID-19. In 2003, China originated another pandemic SARS which is a similar type of category of Coronavirus. The company is already developing the vaccine against it so, the vaccine for Coronavirus speeds up from the previous knowledge.
The COVID-19 vaccine produced by Sinovac doing it is phase 1 and phase 2 trials. And it is claiming a Phase-3 trial from WHO to launch the trial in the regions of China where coronavirus still spreading rapidly.
