Earlier this month, the California mansion of Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, her wife, was robbed.
This news has now gotten even bigger because as it turns out, they were both at home when it happened!
The suspected robbers managed to slip past the security equipment in the presence of the couple.
The incident caused Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi to increase the security of the house to avoid such things again in future.
The burglary at Ellen and Portia’s
The robbery took place on the 4th of July and resulted in the stealth of some high-value jewellery and watches.
The robbers most probably entered through back doors. As per the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s office, robbers targeted the couple because of their “celebrity status”.
The officials said, “Sheriff’s detectives and forensics technicians have been conducting an extensive and on-going investigation.”
Police are trying to determine if this has anything to do with recent home burglaries involving celebrities.
Tips for protection
This news became quite sensational in no time. Soon, the Police gave some tips to people who might be planning a holiday.
These tips can be helpful in protecting your belongings if you’re away from home.
If you are on vacation, do not post about it on social media. This informs the robbers of your absence and makes your home more vulnerable to burglary. Wait till you are home before you let social media know about it.
If you can, get programmable lightings for your house which you can schedule to turn off and on periodically.
Further investigation is still going on in this matter. Although the news is all over the Internet, Ellen and Portia have decided to be mum about it. The comedian and her actress wife have not yet released a statement on the incident.
