“Time To Break Up Amazon. Monopolies Are Wrong”. The following tweet came from Elon Musk on Thursday (4/5/2020). The tweet was in response to a tweet from Alex Berenson, author of the book “Unreported Truths About COVID-19 and Lockdowns”. Amazon has refused to sell the book as it doesn’t comply with their guidelines. Alex Berenson had tweeted that his ebook was unanimously taken down from Amazon’s Kindle. However, Amazon denied the allegations and stated that the ebook was removed in error. The Tesla Inc CEO has been public in denying the true impact of COVID-19, the deaths, and the worldwide harm that has been done.
What Is The Book About?
The book appears to be at the center of the controversy, and Elon Musk knew exactly which button to push. “Unreported Truths About COVID-19 and Lockdowns” by Alex Bereson was allegedly banned by Amazon for failing to comply with its guidelines. Many people have criticized Amazon’s banning of the book. The book argues that the mainstream media is overstating the threat of the coronavirus. Through his book, Berenson has criticized politicians and their decisions for shutting down industries and impose lockdown in the country.
Although, the tweet has further fueled the feud between Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk. The two have been staunch rivals in the space industry. SpaceX recently completed a successful space launch. On the other hand, Amazon has partnered up with Blue Origin, the EV startup. This startup is going to supply 100,000 vans to Amazon for the delivery fleet by 2030.
Elon Fuels Feud With Bezos!
There has been a long-standing rivalry between the two tech giants. However, over the past couple of months, this rivalry has turned into a feud. The SpaceX founder has fueled the feud with his tweet on Thursday evening, in which he fired shots at Amazon.
As both the companies are investors in space exploration, there has always been a rivalry amongst the two billionaires. Musk tweet follows the removal of an ebook from Amazon’s Kindle, and this tweet has escalated the rivalry. With more than 35 million followers, Musk is a prolific tweeter and has certainly raised the profile of the issue.
Does This Have A Political Flair?
Sources have reported that this may be a result of political indifferences between the two. Amazon and Bezos have strong opposers of President Trump and his administration. Whereas, Trump has favorably mentioned Elon Musk in his tweets several times. Trump has often used phrases like “The Edison Of Our Time” while mentioning Elon Musk in his tweets.
However, there is also a massive contract between SpaceX and NASA. It will be interesting to see if the President weighs in on this issue if the feud escalates further.
