On 26th January 2020, NBA player Kobe Bryant died in a helicopter crash in California. Alongside Kobe, his 13-year-old daughter, Gianna Bryant and 11 others died.
This news came off as a shock for the basketball community and the Bryant family. Kobe was one of the best players of the LA Lakers, and his fellow teammates miss him to this day.
When Smith signed for the Lakers team, he took a moment to think about Kobe and honoured him. He said:
“Appreciate it, bro! It’s an honour to play in his memory for as long as I wear the colours.”

J.R Smith is vocal about being happy to be in the Lakers team. Moreover, he is dedicating his play to Kobe.
