Jennifer Aniston Was Not The First Choice To Play Rachel In Friends
Remember Carol from Friends, who divorced Ross as she was a lesbian and later married Susan. Well, the actor who played Carol was selected for the role of Rachel, which was eventually played by Jennifer Aniston. Jane Sibbett, who played Carol, recently revealed that she was up for the part of Rachel. She said:
“I actually was up for another character, they wanted me to be one of the main six. It was actually Rachel.” Imagine Carol being Rachel and flirting and romancing Ross. Feel weird, right?
How Did Jennifer Aniston End Up As Rachel In Friends
Now you would be wondering why did Jane not get Rachel and had to settle for Carol. The reason is that she was pregnant when she got the role, and when she informed this, the producers made it clear that it is not okay. So they eventually found Jennifer Aniston and Jane had to settle for Carol. She said:
“I asked them [her agents] if they’d told the producers I was pregnant [at the time] and they said, ‘Oh no, we thought we’d tell them later.’ And I said, ‘No you’ve got to tell them now.’ So obviously [the producers] said it wouldn’t work out.”
Jane Sibbett Has No Regrets For Not Playing Rachel In Friends
Jane is entirely okay with not playing Rachel as she feels Jennifer has done a job beyond excellence while playing Rachel. She feels no other actor could reach that level where Jennifer has set the bar. Jane said:
“I have no regrets, my goodness, there’s no way anybody could have come close to what Jennifer Aniston did with Rachel. She was so perfect.” Jennifer has praised the role of Rachel and people loved her throughout the ten seasons.
