The disappearance of Madeleine McCann is one of the oldest running cases in Germany and across Europe. She had disappeared 13 years ago from a Portuguese holiday apartment.
As per the latest updates in the case, the suspect is a German sex offender who is in jail at the moment.
German prosecutors are now dealing with this case as a murder enquiry assuming that Madeleine is now dead.
The latest update in Madeleine McCann case
The suspect Christian B had arrived there in the same year Madeleine went missing and he rented an allotment there.
At the moment the prosecutors are searching a site near Hanover. The search started on Monday and will continue till Wednesday.
The owner of the allotment told the Police that Christian had rented the allotment for a few months. The disappearance of Madeliene led to a huge police search across Europe.
The evidence against the suspect
The German prosecutors are saying that they have evidence against the suspect Christian B that he killed Madeleine. Although, this evidence might not be strong enough to take him to the court.
The owner of the allotment told BBC that the suspect had asked for an insulated small shack standing on a concrete base in the garden with a small cellar.
The owner had gone on a holiday in July of 2017. He didn’t see the suspect ever again after coming back in August and said that the structure was not there anymore.
The prosecutors believe that the 43-year-old suspect was in the area as Madeleine in the Algarve in Portugal.
Madeleine McCann’s parents said in a statement that they would not give up on finding Madeleine alive. They also added that “whatever the outcome may be, we need to know, as we need to find peace”.
