Madeleine McCann Missing Case
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann is a case highly publicized case where a 3-year-old girl went missing in 2007. Madeleine had come to Portugal for a holiday with her parents and siblings. They were staying in a holiday apartment at a resort in Praia da Luz. The media heavily reported it, which added pressure on the investigation. However, the investigation was not a success, and there is still no clue of where the girl is. German prosecutors have concluded that she is dead by now.
Initial Investigation On The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Madeleine was born to Kate and Gerry McCann. She had a pair of twins as her siblings. They all had come to Portugal for a vacation with family friends. They left their children for dinner after ensuring that they had gone to sleep. However, when Kate came back, Madeleine was missing. The initial investigation itself went in the wrong direction. The police misinterpreted a British DNA Analysis and came to the conclusion that the parents had killed her. By 2008, the case lost heat, and Portugal’s attorney general archived it giving the reason as lack of evidence.
Further Investigations In 2011
The parents were not ready to lose hope and resorted to private investigation. In 2011, Scotland Yard began investigating the case. Moreover, they named the operation Operation Grange. The investigating officer came up with a bunch of suspects. Seeing some progress in the case, the Portuguese Police reopened the case. However, there was no conclusive proof of who took the girl, and the operation slowed down by 2015.
Madeleine McCann Prime Suspect Was Thrown Out Of Portugal For Sex Crimes
In 2017, the police got hold of Christian Brueckner who became the prime suspect of the case. However, it was not until yesterday that the police got to know about his history of sex crimes. He is originally from Germany. He has spent the last 22 years shuttling between Germany and Portugal. However, he faced extradition from Portugal on two occasions. The first happened in 1999 when he was sent back to Germany for a jail sentence for sexually abusing a child. He was again sent for a jail sentence in 2017 for the same offense. Despite all this, it is rather suspicious that he is not in the list of Portugal’s sexual offenders.
