Matthew McConaughey Writes About Being Assaulted At 18
Actor Matthew McConaughey has revealed that during his teenage years in his latest book, Greenlights. He was a victim of sexual assault many times.
As per Variety, through moments he describes as green, yellow or red lights. The memoir traces the life of the 50-year-old McConaughey. The events that caused him to advance, pause or stop. At each stage, the Oscar-winning actor then explains how he learnt a lesson and how he went on.
At the beginning of the novel, Matthew shares some information about himself to set the stage for the rest of the book. It involves his history of sexual harassment.
“I was blackmailed into having sex for the first time when I was 15,” McConaughey wrote in his memoir. “I was certain I was going to hell for the premarital sex. Today, I am merely certain that I hope that’s not the case.”
McConaughey also mentions that he was “molested by a man when he was 18 while knocked unconscious in the back of a van.”
Matthew Talks About His Parents Relationship, His Marriage
McConaughey says that he does not consider himself a victim of the case, but he does not provide any further specifics about his experience.
In the novel, he shared descriptions of his parents’ tumultuous relationship, his marriage to Camila Alves, and his philosophy.

In his memoir, while McConaughey stressed the incidents, he also clarified that he never felt like a victim. The actor said instead that it helped him look at the better side of life.
“I have a lot of proof that the world is conspiring to make me happy,” he wrote in the book.
Besides the two events, the dysfunctional equation between his parents and more, Matthew also opened up about his marriage to Camila Alves.
