You may have seen many sweet love stories on screen and read many romantic books, but real-life love stories are always the best.
And here we are talking about the love story of Matthew McConaughey and his wife Camila Alves.
The Oscar-winning American actor Matthew McConaughey’s wife had no idea who he was when they first met back in 2006.
The Dazed and Confused actor had tried to wave her over but that didn’t work. So how did they end up together? Let’s know how their love story started.
The spring of 2006
Matthew talked about the night he first met his wife to the People. He had gone out with his friend Lance Armstrong to a club at Hollywood in the spring of 2006.
It was while making margaritas that he noticed Camila first from across the room. As soon as he spotted her, he asked, “Who is that? What is that?”
Matthew McConaughey, the Hollywood star, tried to wave her over and failed in doing so. After giving himself a pep talk, he finally invited Camila and her friends to have drinks with him.
When Camila finally came, she started speaking in Portuguese but he managed to put up a conversation that he says he is still proud of today.
Camila told Access Hollywood, “The first interaction, I did not know who he was. At the time, he had a really long beard and he had this Rasta hat. He was all covered up, and I didn’t really realize who he was.”
Right person, Right time
While speaking to People in 2017, Matthew said that Camila had come into his life at the right time.
It’s gotta be the right person but it has to be the right time,” he said.
“We went out on our first date three nights later and I knew then that the next night I wanted to go on another date … And I’ve been wanting to go on a date with her for the last nine years. And not with anybody else.”
Matthew proposed to Camila in 2011 on Christmas Eve. The couple then got married on June 9, 2012, at their home in Austin, Texas.
Matthew McConaughey wants more kids
Matthew and Camila were already parents of two before they got married. Camila had given birth to the couple’s first child on July 7, 2008. It was their son Levi.
The couple’s second child was their daughter Vida who came into this world on January 3, 2010.
He told People, “Well, we had children first. Two of our children before we got married, before she handed me the invitation to our wedding.”
A few months after their wedding, their son Livingston was born on December 28, 2012.
Although Camila doesn’t want any more children, McConaughey said he would love to have eight more kids. He expressed this desire on HISTORYTalks: Leadership and Legacy panel.
“I’d like to have eight more kids,” the actor said. “My wife’s not on the same page. I understand that.”
