Paris Jackson, the 22-year-old daughter of late Pop King Michael Jackson, is playing Jesus in an Indie movie called ‘Habit’.
And no, she isn’t just playing Jesus, she is playing a lesbian Jesus. And as you must have already expected, it has sparked a bitter controversy.
But is she really playing a lesbian Jesus? And who said that she is? Let’s dig in deeper to know what exactly happened and how it started.
The controversy started when it came out that Paris Jackson will play the role of Jesus in a fantasy sequence in the film.
This, of course, didn’t go too well with millions of people who have since started a movement to get the film banned.
The film’s executive producer has denied that she plays a ‘lesbian’ Jesus. He did say, though, that she will appear as Jesus in the film in a fantasy sequence.
Cassian Elwes, the executive producer of the film, said that the story has been “completely blown out of proportion.”
He tweeted, “In fact, Paris appears in a fantasy moment that Bella has in the film where Bella has a vision of her mother played by Paris ) dressed as Jesus.”
Backlash and anger
No doubt, there were consequences. A change.org petition against the movie states, “A new blasphemous Hollywood film is predicted to come out soon depicting Jesus as a lesbian woman.”
“The film “Habit” stars Paris Jackson who plays the role of “lesbian Jesus. Distributors haven’t picked it up as of yet, so let’s please spread awareness and wake people up to the Christianophobic garbage that is spread nowadays, but is somehow accepted and praised by society.”
More than 280,000 people have already signed this petition. Although most of the people are opposing Jackson for her portrayal in the film, singer Sia came out in her support.
On Wednesday, she tweeted, “Dear @ParisJackson I love you, keep going. I believe you are a good person.”
On Thursday, she tweeted again, “Hey. Lay off @ParisJackson you bullies. It’s me that has my opinions as a 44-year-old woman. Let her be a child, please- attack me.”
The indie film which has sparked such controversy has been directed by Janell Shirtcliff. Jackson will start against Bella Thorne and Gavin Rossdale.
Other important cast members are singer Josie Ho, Jamie Hince and Alison Mosshart from The Kills, model Andreja Pejic, and Libby Mintz.
The movie follows Bella Thorne who plays “a street smart, party girl with a Jesus fetish (who) gets mixed up in a violent drug deal and finds a possible way out; by masquerading as a nun.”
Producer of the movie, Donovan Leitch explains why the movie has a majority of the cast from a musical background.
“Yes, we intentionally stacked the film with rock stars and will have a very rocking soundtrack,” he said.
