Ryan Reynolds Apologizes For His Plantation Wedding

A plantation wedding is something that looks desirable due to its visual appeal. However, plantations have a very painful history of American slavery. Ryan and Blake got married at Boone Plantation in South Carolina. What looks like an amazing wedding venue has a past that makes it very ironic to conduct a wedding. Ryan himself apologized on behalf of himself and his wife for their plantation wedding. During a recent interview with Fast Company, he said,

“It’s something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for.”

Ryan seemed to be short of words to express his regret for having a plantation wedding. He tried to explain what went behind their mind at that time. For them, it was just a wedding venue and nothing else at that time. Ryan said during the interview, “It’s impossible to reconcile. What we saw at the time was a wedding venue on Pinterest. What we saw after was a place built upon devastating tragedy.”

Ryan Reynolds Talks About The Brighter Aspect Of His Plantation Wedding

On the brighter side, it opened his eyes, and he understands the issue with more seriousness. The incident has taught him a lot, and his latest interview suggests the same. He said,

“Years ago we got married again at homeβ€”but shame works in weird ways. A giant fucking mistake like that can either cause you to shut down, or it can reframe things and move you into action. It doesn’t mean you won’t fuck up again. But repatterning and challenging lifelong social conditioning is a job that doesn’t end.”
