Yes, that’s right. Jada Pinkett Smith and her son Jaden Smith have slammed YouTuber Shane Dawson for allegedly “sexualizing” a young, 11-year-old Willow Smith.
The controversy arose when an old video of Shane Dawson resurfaced after which Jada Pinkett Smith and Jaden Smith took to Twitter to denounce his actions.

What is the controversy about?
Shane Dawson, a popular YouTuber recently posted a video in which he apologizes for his past action. The title of this video is “Taking Accountability” which was released on Friday.
But as he was “taking accountability” for his misdeeds, one of his old video clips resurfaced. In this clip, he is pretending to masturbate in front of a poster of Willow Smith while saying, “Whip your hair back and forth”.
This was a reference to Willow Smith’s 2010 “Whip my hair” when the singer was only 11-years old. Not so surprisingly, Jada Pinkett Smith and her son Jaden Smith did not take this well. They took to Twitter and criticized Dawson for his remarks.
What exactly did they say?
Jaden tweeted, “SHANE DAWSON I AM DISGUSTED BY YOU. YOU SEXUALIZING AN 11-YEAR-OLD GIRL WHO HAPPENS TO BE MY SISTER!!!!!! IS THE FURTHEST THING FROM FUNNY AND NOT OKAY IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT.”
This isn’t where it ends. Jaden Smith also criticized the way Shane Dawson had previously done blackface.
Jada Pinkett Smith also tweeted about the resurfaced video clip, “To Shane Dawson… I am done with the excuses.”
So far there hasn’t been any response from Shane Dawson. Media has been trying to reach him, Jaden Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith for their statements about the whole controversy.
There hasn’t been anything from the side of Willow Smith either who happens to be 19-year-old currently.
Shane Dawson and his history
Although Shane Dawson has apologized for his previous videos and insensitive jokes, this does raise questions about how racism is treated in the entertainment industry.
Just a few days ago, another YouTuber, Jenna Marbles, had posted an apology and announced an indefinite hiatus from the channel.
Jenna Marbles also used to post many racist videos, doing blackface. Specifically apologizing for one of her 2011 video in which she impersonated Nicki Minaj, Marbles said, “I do want to tell you, it was not my intention to do blackface.”
It was Marbles who “inspired” Shane Dawson to apologize and that raises the question whether his apology is only to come in league with others amid the #blacklivesmatter campaign.
He still hasn’t apologized to anyone from the Smith family, which makes you question the honesty of his apologies.
