The US And Maldives Sign A Defence Cooperation Pact As China Tried To Gain Influence In Indian Ocean: Recently, the US signed defence cooperation with the Maldives. It got done to show solidarity to maintaining harmony and security. Trump’s authority is also trying to make strong alliances in the Indo-Pacific region. China’s influence in that region is growing and to countereffect it, this has to be done.
On September 10, the deal g sealed in Philadelphia. It was between Maldivian defence minister Mariya Ahmed Didi and Reed Werner. Reed is the deputy assistant secretary of defence for South and Southeast Asia.
Pentagon stated that “The framework sets forth both countries’ intent to deepen engagement and cooperation in support of maintaining peace and security in the Indian Ocean. Also, it marks an important step forward in the defence partnership.”
Mariya Spoke About Why Bilateral Language & Engagement Is Important
The defence minister of Maldives also has something to say. She focused on why bilateral language and engagement is essential. For instance, it can reduce terrorism, illicit trades, piracy, etc. to some extent. She also mentioned that even mind the COVID-19 pandemic these things continue. For her, it was a significant milestone in defence and security operation.
According to the report, many necessary aspects got considered. These include senior-level dialogues, bilateral activities, engagement and so on. Some critical areas like natural disasters and relief operations get considered.
China Tried Continuously To Gain Influence In the Indian Ocean
Both the parties managed to reach on mutual consent. It will surely fulfil the peace and security between the two nations. The USA and Maldives have committed themselves to work this out.
